The Plains are deadly, but you ll have a much better experience trying to survive in it if you come to it prepared. Here are some of the supplies and pieces of gear that we highly recommend you bring with you on your first trip.
You re going to want a full set of wolf armor, a drake helmet, and an upgraded silver-tier weapon and silver shield. All of these recipes mainly require usable silver, which you can make by mining and smelting silver ore from the Mountain biome.
Maces are great in the Plains since their high knockback can help with crowd control, which you may need when fighting Fuling groups. Atgeirs are a good option as well, as they have excellent range and their special attack does sweeping area-of-effect damage. They are weak against the Plains boss, however.

Crafting a portal can be done fairly early in your travels, but it requires a few key materials. One of those ingredients is Fine Wood. Finding a piece of Fine Wood will unlock the recipe for the Portal, but to find Fine Wood, you ll have to chop down the Birch or Oak trees found in the Meadows, Black Forest, or Plains biomes.
Both trees require a Bronze Axe to chop down, so you ll have to have discover Bronze first. Fine Wood can also be found in the shipwrecks found on the coast of the Black Forest, or if you re feeling dangerous, you can also tempt a Troll to knock over the necessary trees, but doing so is dangerous.

Iron in Valheim explained
Players will start to see the importance of Iron in Valheim after they craft Bronze tools and armour. After beating the first boss Eikthyr, players will receive the means to craft an Antler Pickaxe and with it, they can mine ores.
Found in The Black Forest biome, Tin and Copper are the first resources you can mine. When they are smelted and combined, they produce Bronze. Using a forge, you can melt Bronze to craft powerful weapons, tools and armour.
