A lonely student s letter and, 25 years later, an admiring teacher s response

A lonely student’s letter and, 25 years later, an admiring teacher’s response Try never. “I would like to think that I responded to your letter at the time, but I suspect I did not,” Lynn Bonsey of Bucksport wrote a week ago to Rep. Genevieve McDonald, D-Stonington. “And I am very sorry for that.” Bonsey is a schoolteacher, has been for 43 years. She’s spent the last 27 of those years teaching at the tiny Surry Elementary School in Hancock County. Related McDonald, now in her second term as a Maine legislator, attended that school for a short time in 1996. Her life was anything but tranquil in those days and, as she navigated her way through seventh grade, “Ms. Bonsey” became an anchor in the storm.

New Surry classroom is kid-approved - The Ellsworth American

New Surry classroom is kid-approved SURRY Meet the new pandemic classroom, a yurt at the Surry Elementary School. Yurts are wholeheartedly kid-approved. “It’s maybe the best idea I ever had,” said Principal Fred Cole. “It’s entirely in response to the COVID-19 physical distancing requirements we have in the schools. We used COVID relief fund money to purchase it.” “I confess I only had the idea for a yurt because I worked at the Bay School,” Cole said. “I was wondering how we could get some classroom space quickly. It’s impossible to get a good modular, but a yurt might go up quick. We were lucky to get it. To get a yurt right now, they’re talking months out. This company just had a cancellation.”
