work you re doing trying to reunite families and i hope you and your children continue to safe.- children continue to safe. thank ou. people around the world have seen images of the 21 surrogate babies being cared for in a kyiv bomb shelter. a top eu official is now calling for their evacuation as their intended parents can t travel to ukraine during the russian invasion. shelley phelps has spoken to one of those surrogate mothers. these surrogate born babies are starting life at a makeshift nursery in a bomb shelter basement. their foreign biological parents unable to pick them up because of war. more arrive every day and they expect to have around 100 here by the end of the month. translation: we are worried for ourselves, for our own i children, for these little babies who stay here, for everyone. it s terrifying because we sit here and we don t know what will happen next. even though we stay in the basement, when there is an explosion somewhere nearby, we can hear it very clearly.
and help these people fight for themselves. dana: tell me a story you have heard that touched your heart that we can share with viewers today. absolutely. we re seeing our team. our team is blessed to be led by veterans of the special operations and intelligence communities who have a heart that says here i am, lord, send me. they are going in very dangerous environment to bring supplies, medical supplies to children that need it. surrogate mothers that need it and orphanages. they re answering the call and the response from the ukrainian people who feel supported by these efforts is heartwarming to see. we want to keep at it. we have a big commitment to standing by all of our allies. dana: i can t wait to meet you in person. thank you so much for what you are doing there and what you did for benjamin hall and we ll stay in touch with you. thanks for having me. thank you. dana: incredible woman. amazing organization. they do great work.
pouring into resources that help local communities. that includes ukraine. can you tell us what you are doing there? everything we can. we are so grateful to be partnered with local churches and also to be helping with special needs, orphan care, help ring people to safety. also with food, there is a lot of babies from surrogate mothers, a real issue and a real need and we are so grateful to have partners on the ground that rescuing babies every day. it is something, i tell you what, we ve been fortunate of trying to help in small ways. but the real heroes, so many of the ukrainian people that we have had a chance to partner with and see so much courage in the face of adversity. we talk a lot about courage and we talk a lot about inspiration we talk about these words that we throw out. but you will truly see real boldness which the definition is
