korea, with nbc news correspondent janice mackie frayer. good morning, janice. a lot going on and a lot of confusion to say the least. where do we currently stand on the trump/kim summit and what is happening, and what is the view from south korea on all this? reporter: well, it is tough to keep up and there is a sense of urgency around these working level meetings that are happening because there is still so much uncertainty on whether this can come together in such a short period of time. just two weeks. importantly are those talks that are happening at the dmz between u.s. officials and north korean officials because they are working on the agenda. it s being led for the u.s. by former u.s. ambassador to south korea sung kim, also a former nuclear negotiator. he has experience and he has history with the people he s meeting with. that said, to hammer out an agenda for a summit that will have, of course, the historic photo op, but is also supposed to produce a workable agreement,
about those american journalists and what could potentially happen to them, given the president s very angry tone in that letter. one of my friends was there. his mother was furious and is furious because she feels like the president endangered her son. is this intentional, or is this just the president you tell me. what s going on? well, i think there s a bit of gamesmanship on both sides and so president trump very much wants this summit to take place, but he was really taken aback by that rhetoric coming out of kim jong-un s government last week, which is why he wrote that letter. but there s a scramble now from both sides to have the summit take place, and it goes beyond the logistical preparations. there s actual substance that has to be figured out going into this summit. the u.s. wants some asurnss that the assurances that the north koreans are going to denuclearize their arsenal. and beyond that, president trump only has a few days to basically do his homework and underst
