MUMBAI: Bombay high court has directed the state government to explain why it decided to cancel SSC exams when it has decided to hold HSC exams by May end.
A vacation bench of Justices Shahrukh Kathawalla and Surendra Tavade on May 20 had heard a challenge to the state’s May 12 decision to cancel the exams.
In its order, released on Tuesday, it directed the state’s reply will also set out as to how class X students will be uniformly evaluated “keeping in view the fact that every school has a different standard of evaluation and no school is allowed to declare the student as failed upto 8th standard, and in most of the schools there were no examinations in the academic year 2019-20 of students who were in class IX. The State will also explain how “they will ensure that the marks allotted at the school level are comparable across schools due to variation in the evaluation standards and mode of conduct of exams in the past years.”

MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Thursday came down heavily on the state government s decision not to hold SSC exams questioning whether it is making a mockery of the education system.
“Are you thinking of promoting them (students) without examination? Then God save the education system in this country and in this State! This is the only main exam in the last year of school,’’ was the lament of a bench of Justices Shahrukh Kathawalla and Surendra Tavade. They heard a PIL by Dhananjay Kulkarni, a retired teacher from Pune, that cancellation of exams could lead to problems for XI admissions as different boards declare results based on different formulae.
