Portslade News, in Station Road, Portslade The new owner of a shop in Portslade has been granted an alcohol licence provided that the former owners are banned from the premises when it’s open for business. The former owners of Portslade News, in Station Road, Portslade, were under investigation after claims that people were found working for them in conditions amounting to “modern slavery”. The new owner, LMYP Limited, run by Marissa Patel and her father Yogesh, has agreed to abide by the unusual condition on its licence. The condition was proposed by Sussex Police because the force objected to a new licence being granted unless Miss and Mr Patel could show that they had no links with the former owners.
“We are looking for assurances that they are no longer associated with this address in any way.” A new company, LMYP Limited, has applied for a licence to sell alcohol at Portslade News from 6am to 11pm daily. But Sussex Police raised concerns at a Brighton and Hove City Council licensing panel on Tuesday. Neither the perspective owners, nor their agent, had not contacted the force about the application.
Three premises owned by the Patels were raided by police Their agent, Surendra Panchal, also represented the previous owners when they were stripped of their licence for the Saltdean store. He told the hearing that the prospective proprietors are from Croydon and have no link with the previous owners.

Illegal immigrants found in raids as part of slavery investigation A CONVENIENCE store at the centre of a modern slavery investigation is accused of paying immigrant workers “a pittance” and putting them up in unsafe conditions. Councillors heard that Sussex Police raided Saltdean News and found a worker with no right to be in the UK on 16 December, after receiving a Home Office crime report. Officers also found another illegal immigrant at a premises in Portslade owned by the licensees, Krunal Chandrakant Patel and Kirma Krunal Patel. Sussex Police asked Brighton and Hove City Council to review Saltdean News’ alcohol licence the same month, and notified the Patels.
