According to a police complaint filed by the 28-year-old woman, she was in a relationship with a 22-year-old man from her village. She alleged that as her husband would not have divorced her and the man's family would not have accepted their relationship, they eloped to Surat in 2022.
In her complaint, the woman said she came in contact with Vaghela in 2014 when her son was caught driving a two-wheeler without a license and other documents. At her request, Vaghela allowed her son to go, she said.
A court in Surat today sentenced a 27-year-old man to life imprisonment "for the remainder of his natural life" in a case of rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in April this year.

SURAT: A court in Surat awarded life imprisonment to Shailesh Rathod, a 45-year-old textile unit worker for raping and impregnating his 19-year-old niece.
The court convicted Rathod, a resident of Salabatpura area, for rape and sexual assault under the sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The girl was eight months pregnant when the family came to know about her ordeal.
Due to the delay, she could not get the foetus aborted. DNA profiling of the child proved that Rathod was her father.
The complaint was lodged by the elder brother of the girl at Salabatpura police station on September 23, 2020 in which he claimed that she was 14-year-old.

SURAT: In a grim reminder of the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Pandesara in 2018, the seven-year-old minor, who was allegedly raped by the 20-year-old man in Lalgate area, was also severely brutalized on Tuesday.
Medical examination revealed it was found that the minor has bite marks all over her body inflicted by the accused Jammu Pathan.
“The minor has bite injuries on neck, hand and back as well. She was also forced into oral sex and her private parts were brutalized by the accused,” a senior police official, quoting doctors who examined her, told TOI.
