Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam, a founder of the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh (Huji) and a death-row prisoner in the 21 August grenade blast cases, died at a Sylhet hospital this afternoon.
He was born on April 27, 1936 in a famous zamindar family of Baniachang, Sylhet. He passed away on December 20, 2019. He left behind his work and his organisation BRAC. He is still alive in the hearts of people. I am talking about none other than Fazle Hasan Abed. Thanks to a book writing opportunity, I had the good fortune of getting close to him for a few consecutive years. Together, we visited many places of Bangladesh. I saw and I learned about various activities of BRAC. I also came to know about different aspects of his personality.
The topic of discussion was the politics in Bangladesh. In that context, the issues of Shalla and Suranjit Sengupta were brought forward. The first activities of BRAC in the independent Bangladesh started in Suranjit Sen Gupta s area Shalla of Sunamganj. He was delighted to know that BRAC would conduct reconstruction work in his area. Hasan for resisting ill-attempts of harming culture, heritage by misinterpreting Islam

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged all including Islamic thinkers to be united against all ill-attempts of harming the country’s culture and heritage through misinterpreting Islam.
“Teenagers are misled through misinterpreting Islam .. . And many use Islam as a stair to go to power . . . it is most important to reach to the masses that opposing sculpture, attacking on various cultural traditions of Bengal and raising question over the celebration of Pahela Baishakh are not right,” he said.
The information minister made the comments while uncovering the book ‘Santhrash Noy Sampritir Dhormo Islam’ (Islam is a religion of harmony, not terrorism), compiled by Mohammad Aminul Islam at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.
