6 Venezuelans detained in Palo Seco

Six foreign nationals, who reportedly are from Margarita, Venezuela, are the latest detainees being held by the local authorities for illegal entry into Trinidad. According to official police reports, the six Venezuelans were detained by officers of the South Western Division Task Force during an anti-crime exercise on Thursday 28th January 2021. The Police Service says during the exercise, officers received information regarding persons entering the country illegally.  That information led them to #4 Road, Palo Seco, where they searched a forested area and discovered, and subsequently detained the illegal immigrants. The Police Service confirms that the detainees were conveyed to the Siparia Health Facility where they were medically examined, and then taken to the Santa Flora and Erin Police Stations. 

Man charged after robbing supermarket 3 times

Twenty-year-old Joshua McMillan is expected to appear before a Pt. Fortin Magistrates’ Court today charged with three counts of robbery with aggravation. The charges stemmed from three robberies which occurred at a Pt. Fortin supermarket on December 23rd 2020, January 17th 2021 and January 26th 2021. According to police reports, on December 23rd 2020, at around 9.47 pm four males, one armed with a cutlass, entered a supermarket located at Mainfield Road, Point Fortin. The suspects announced a hold-up and escaped on foot after taking a quantity of cash and alcohol valued at $6,227.80. Officers on patrol in the area responded, observed the suspects and a chase ensued. One teenaged suspect was arrested and the other three suspects escaped.

Security guard shot, wounded in La Brea supermarket robbery Friday 15 January 2021 One of two bandits shot and wounded an unarmed security guard during a robbery at a Chinese supermarket in La Brea on Wednesday. Up to Thursday afternoon, the 45–year-old victim remained in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. The police did not give his name, but said he works with Travtech Security Services Ltd and lives at St Margaret’s Village in Claxton Bay. Police said shortly before 6 pm on Wednesday, two gunmen walked into Welcome supermarket at Majuba Road, La Brea, and announced a robbery.
