SORT officer found dead should have been in quarantine

Sgt Lyndon Jacob of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT), who was found dead near his Mayo garden on Wednesday morning, was supposed to be in quarantine.
SORT head Supt Roger Alexander revealed this during TV6’s Beyond the Tape programme on Wednesday evening.
Jacob was found in the road at Hillview Heights, Sankarlal Drive, Whiteland.
A nearby resident told Newsday Jacob’s wife had been outside screaming and crying for help.
The resident said she sent her son to see what was happening.

Looks can be deceiving. Felix and Tino appear to be two ordinary police officers – in the canine realm of policing – but Felix the German Shepherd and Tino the Belgian Malinois lead secret lives and participate in secret police exercises.
Felix and Tino are currently the only two police dogs operating in the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) led by Supt Roger Alexander.
“We work on special SORT assignments and support other police exercises that require SORT assistance,” says Officer A, Felix’s handler.
Former SORT head: My son is not a member

FORMER head of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Insp Mark Hernandez has denied an attorney s claims that his 19-year-old son is a member of the unit.
On Sunday, attorney Gerald Ramdeen, who was until recently part of Hernandez’s legal team, said Hernandez has a teenage son in the specialised unit.
Newsday called Hernandez on Wednesday and he said the statement needed to be supported, adding that John Heath was his attorney, before ending the call.
Newsday also contacted Police Commissioner Gary Griffith. The CoP said he does not divulge details pertaining to police officers, especially if they are assigned to any specialist units.

Superintendent Roger Alexander is the new head of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT). His appointment was announced on Wednesday by Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith during the weekly police media briefing at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain.
Griffith, when asked about the thought process behind selecting Alexander, said he chose the best fit for the unit.
