At first glance, the general increase in drug-related offences across the three Cork Garda divisions may be viewed as an issue of serious concern.
However, senior Gardaí insist that this is a reflection of the fact that the force is investing huge amounts of resources into dedicated drug units across the Cork and indeed the entire country. Drugs are out there and the pandemic has not diminished the amount of drug taking in society. People are using them, and the scale and supply of drugs is very prevalent. Our drugs units have had a huge amount of success across the city and county targeting known dealers, Chief Supt Barry McPolin told the Cork County Joint Policing Committee.
