Babysitter remanded four days over toddler s death

BALIK PULAU: The 43-year-old babysitter, who is in custody over ongoing investigations into the death of a toddler, will be remanded until March 7. Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said the woman will be held for four days to assist investigations into the drowning of the toddler during bath time. The one year and five-month-old girl died at 2am on Wednesday (March 3) at the Penang Hospital after being rushed there unconscious the day before (March 2). Based on the post-mortem carried out by forensic specialist at the Penang Hospital, Supt Anbalagan said the cause of death was stomach perforation with disseminated intravascular coagulation secondary to blunt trauma.

GEORGE TOWN: It was a rare sight at the famous Hock Hin Keong (Ban Ka Lan Snake Temple) in Bayan Lepas with only about 10 people present for Chinese New Year prayers. Police cripple trafficking syndicate in Penang, seize drugs worth over RM40,000

BALIK PULAU: A drug trafficking syndicate operating from budget hotels in Bayan Lepas has been crippled after the police arrested nine people and seized drugs worth more than RM40,000. Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said the suspects are aged from 17 to 39 years old and were nabbed during series of raids conducted between 11am to 6.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 5). Supt Anbalagan said in the first raid, a team of police from the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) raided a room at a budget hotel here and found drugs believed to be syabu and heroin. When police barged into the room, four suspects were found and drugs believed to be syabu and heroin were found in packets, he said during a press conference at the district police headquarters on Friday (Jan 8).
