The answer is in this era, as always, we have a chief justice first and foremost the head of and a steward of our three branches of government. I think there are some unique aspects about that job in the sense that the court is not a political branch, but deliberately designed not to be an the chief has in some because a unique job the chief justice is the first. She has had administrative responsibilities but she cannot control the other justices. The chief justice has the power to control but not control.
