required abortion providers to provide ultrasounds on patients while reading a script explaining the images. rick bratton is sponsoring a proposal that could bring execution by firing squad to that state. the move comes as pharmaceutical companies are halting sell of drugs for executions. bratton says firing squads are also cheaper than drugs. there is a new bipartisan effort on capitol hill to restore the 1965 voting rights act. key portions of that landmark law were struck down by the supreme court last june. three congressmen introduced the voting rights of 2014. the movement comes at the same time there is renewed action on voting laws at the state level. let s bring in the president of the naacp legal defense and educational fund. thank you for joining us today. thanks for having me. congressman jon lewis lauded
so, of the cases the other case is utah case. yes. yes. gay marriage, which appears to say can we stop gay marriage until we get a final court opinion? yes this one came out of the blue for a lot of people, as we all know. same-sex marriage, a lot of action across the united states. the supreme court sort of side stepped the issue last summer in the california proposition 8 case but at the same time it also ruling in another case said that same-sex people haved same rights as homosexual couples in the windsor case. and what s happened is that lower court judges are take you can the language from the supreme court last june and using it to enhance same-sex couples rights and that s exactly what happened in utah, right before christmas a utah judge said that utah could not ban marriages between gay men and lesbians. and now, utah officials are right before the supreme court saying please block this.

student or employee or issued by public assistance agency. and cuts back on the number of early voting days and prohibits registering and voting on the same day and casting ballots by eligible votering in the wrong precinct. the attorney general doesn t buy it. the proof of that is simply not there. all of the studies that i have seen and reputable indicate the concern about vote fraud is something that is made up in order to justify these restrictive and i think at a minimum partisan actions. the supreme court last june struck down a key provision of the voting rights act and holder said it is an attempt to use the remaining portion of the law to prevent voting rights that are shrinking rather than expanding as a result of laws like the one in north carolina.
