Florida inmate appeals death sentence after conviction for raping, killing girl, 9

A convicted Florida killer sentenced to death last year for raping and murdering a 9-year-old girl has filed an appeal with the state’s Supreme Court, seeking a new sentencing trial, according to a report.

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association convened its first in-person meeting of 2021 on April 8 at The River Club. It also was the first in-person address during her term for Florida Association for Women Lawyers President Kimberly Hosley, the keynote speaker. A graduate of Stetson University and the Emory University School of Law, Hosley practices real estate law with The Orlando Law Group. She said one of her initiatives leading the state association is to advocate for women lawyers to be compensated equally with their male counterparts in the profession.

Supreme Court Justice Jamie Grosshans cited the hobbit when asked what literary character would best demonstrate professionalism and leadership, the themes of this year’s Supreme Court Historical Society’s Supreme Evening. Part of the January 28 virtual program had Grosshans and fellow Justice John Couriel, both of whom joined the court last year, interviewed by society Trustee Fred Karlinsky so society members would get to better know the newest justices.
