The Supreme Court recently called on judges of the Bombay High Court to promptly hear and dispose of bail matters since delay in hearing bail matters would lead to deprivation of personal liberty.
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice in a plea challenging the Bombay High Court's decision to strike down certain rules for the appointment of members to consumer dispute redressal commissions.
The High Court was found to have admitted a matter for hearing, only for it to refuse considering whether any interim relief should be granted since the "petitioner is having alternate remedy."
"This is my parent High Court (Bombay High Court) and I am distressed to say that hybrid is done away with. How many courtrooms have hybrid hearings apart from Justice Gautam Patel?" the Supreme Court Chief Justice asked
"The haste with which the (High) Court proceeded to dispose of the appeal without proper and adequate opportunity to address arguments cannot be appreciated", the Supreme Court said.
