Questioning the petitioners who argue that Article 370 was not a temporary provision and could not have been abrogated by the Centre, the Supreme Court bench verbally remarked: "Is there no solution for Kashmir?.. After all, all solutions have to be within the framework of the Constitution." The court has also asked a petitioner to swear allegiance to the Constitution of India.
The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it was ready for elections any time now but cannot give an exact timeline for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
