VICTIMS of domestic and sexual abuse are being urged to come forward. Specialist support services are available and can be accessed directly, as well as through the Police, over the Christmas period. Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall said: “We know that over the Christmas period, incidents of domestic abuse and sexual assault increase, and when you add this to Tier two Covid-19 restrictions, it is not surprising that many people living with their abusers, will be even more concerned over the Christmas period. “Over the last nine months, the Covid19 national lockdowns, circuit breaker shutdowns and tier two public restrictions have left people not knowing what to expect. However, no one should feel that they are alone and have to suffer in silence. Help is out there, and support services can be accessed 24/7, over Christmas and the New Year period.
