way you could tell when he went out that night, that he had seen internal polling that told him this is broken. two days before, three days before, ers timid as a mouse. or as some would say a baby. let s listen to both sides and i don t know if i ll support kavanaugh. mid-week it was starting to break. we were all feeling it. talking about it. suddenly then he decided to attack dr. ford. he wasn t ahead of it. he didn t transform the political moment. he was riding the political wave of a political moment. he does that. that s why, you know, he increasingly has done that and i think what s interesting about the stuff about family separation is he may be going back to something toxic and controversial in order to stir up the dust, because he also was very ginger about it. remember, i didn t want to do this. the democrats have to change things on the hill. they did it.
i wanted to ask you about that senate race in particular. i think we have a fox news poll basically tied with claire mchaskill is the 46 and josh holly at 45. now they re both at 46. why do you think this race is still so close as we get so near the midterm? dana, this is one of those races that the kavanaugh vote, the confirmation will have a huge impact. the race is close, almost tied. hawley is one of the candidates that s bet his fortune on getting kavanaugh confirmed and on the supreme court, played a big role in midterm politics. he s been for kavanaugh. he was a clerk for john roberts. claire mchaskill decided early on not to support kavanaugh. with republicans being energized by the whole kavanaugh controversy, the confirmation, there s a sense that there s momentum on josh hawley s side. there are a lot op conservatives on the five line who have begun to engage and could give hawley
the republicans. how long are we going to see this narrative, especially leading up to it and will there be space for the other issue to take center stage? oh, yeah, yeah. i think the kavanaugh situation is going to come down measurably in the next few days. until this point democrats have had a huge advantage over republicans. it s only normal that republicans would sort of come back home in the weeks leading up to the midterms, so it s normal that you would see the enthusiasm come up anyway. we do think some enthusiasm additionally was raised because of the kavanaugh fight and it was something that juiced up republicans. they felt like it was a proxy battle over president trump s presidency really, to support president trump, you ve got to support kavanaugh. it did juice up some enthusiasm there. i don t think it s going to last though. it s four weeks and four weeks is a long time. who knows what s going to happen between now and then. we could be talking about something totally d

some of those already on the court. elena kagan, for example, had hired him for a job in the past. that will be a transition that will be watched if the vote goes as planned. so far in the white house it s been a restrained response because it isn t over until it s over. there have been tweets from the president and vice president thanking those who support kavanaugh. in to e pika, kansas, we would expect he would be wanting to talk about his victory in the supreme court, one that has been difficult for everyone involved. richard? all right. nbc white house correspondent kelly o donnell. thank you, kelly. will roe versus wade survive? why some believe kavanaugh fooled senators on the landmark case to lock in his confirmation. o lock in his confirmation if you have psoriasis, .
