Flooding similar to what occurred Jan. 26 on Grand Island s north end has been an ongoing problem in search of an effective remedy. And the town has resolved to be proactive in finding relief.
Grand Island has ramped up police patrols in response to a rise in car thefts over previous years, according to a letter Supervisor Peter Marston posted on the town s official website Feb. 8.
One of the unique things about Grand Island is the regular meetings that the Grand Island Town Board and the Board of Education hold to discuss collaborative efforts, as well for each governing body to share updates, said Sue Marston, vice president of the Board of Education at a Jan. 29 joint meeting of the two groups.
In the days prior to Jan. 13, the forecast was for high winds and heavy snow. Grand Island was on the radar for 8 to 12 inches, and the town Highway Department was ready with plenty of plows, personnel and a plan to combat the forces of nature.
