Two race horses have died after being electrocuted at Newcastle Racecourse this morning.
The thoroughbreds had just finished up track work around 7:30am when they were being led back into the stables and were electrocuted as they brushed past the stable.
The organisation believes rodents chewed through electric cables in the stable, causing a live wire to fall and hit the stalls.
Two Fire and Rescue crews attended the Broadmeadow racecourse, Newcastle Station Officer James Downey saying it was a “disappointing scene for everyone involved.”
SafeWork NSW is now investigating the incident.
