Commission seeks allegations of racism, discourages members from talking to the press
The Prince William County Government Monday evening sent an email soliciting victims of systemic racism.
Sent from the office of County Executive Christopher Martino, the email encouraged anyone who has been a victim to come to the next meeting of the county’s Racial and Social Justice Commission on Thursday, April 15.
The commission, established last fall, is tasked with providing a report to the Board of County Supervisors at the end of the year about the state of racism in Virginia’s second-largest jurisdiction.
The commission began its work in earnest last month and grilled county Chief Peter Newsham on reported racism incidents in the county. There are about 10 complaints a year, and all have been found baseless.
