After a late-December, early-January slump, Liverpool have won two on the bounce. Win again tonight, and it’s called a “winning streak.” It has happened before.
It’s hard to overstate how important three points are tonight. With Manchester City on the immediate horizon, Liverpool could go into the affair with a real chance to reel in the Sky Blues. At worst, they’d be 4 points behind, with a chance to make it just 1 point by the end of the day. But they have to win tonight. Brighton won’t make things easy on the Reds, but we should have enough, especially at Anfield. Time to start

Liverpool look to get back to their winning ways after their setback on Sunday, and reestablish a little bit of a buffer at the top of the table. However, they have a difficult away test at Newcastle. Although we’d all like to live in a world where fans were safe to return to stadiums, we can be momentarily thankful that we won’t have 50,000 Geordies trying to make the trip to St. James’ Park as bad as possible.
The biggest intrigue tonight will surely surround Thiago Alcântara, who appears to be edging ever closer to full fitness. A fully operational Thiago could be absolutely devastating to Premier League defenses in the second half of the season. I, for one, am anxious to see him back at it after the phenomenal performances against Chelsea and Everton. I’m sure I’m not alone in that desire, but equally there’s no need to rush his return if it will jeopardize his long-term fitness.

CRYSTAL PALACE VS. LIVERPOOL
12:30PM GMT/ 7:30AM EST
Surprisingly, when playing the team full of former Liverpool players include Christian Benteke, Martin Kelly, Mamadou Sakho and, of course, boss Roy Hodgson himself, through a combination of injuries and suspensions, the Reds are unlikely to face any of them on the pitch. It will be another quiet affair in London this afternoon when Liverpool head to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace. With the capital in tier three of lockdown, no fans are permitted in the stadium. This will be their final pre-Christmas match before they get a breather until after the holiday. Hopefully that week-and-change will be enough time to see the return of a few from injury. Today, they still have to get past Palace, so hopefully we’ll see a performance like the one against Spurs instead of the one against Fulham.

LIVERPOOL VS TOTTENHAM
8PM GMT/3PM EST
There’s no getting away from it: tonight is a big one. These top of the table clashes a true six pointer, with major title implications don’t come around as often as you’d think. A win for either side would create a 3-point buffer at the top. A draw, and both Liverpool and Tottenham might be looking up at Leicester and/or Southampton by the end of the night. This is all to say that it’s tight at the top of the table this year, and with injuries and a lack of recovery time continuing to be major stories this campaign, that is only likely to continue.
