TOMS RIVER, NJ An increasing shortage of bus drivers has forced the Toms River Regional School District to change start times for five of its schools for the fall.
The five affected schools are Intermediate North, Intermediate South, Joseph A. Citta Elementary, Pine Beach Elementary and Beachwood Elementary.
Interim Superintendent Thomas Gialanella said the district was forced to make the changes because the situation with bus drivers is dire, an issue that was raised during the school board s June committee meeetings.

Toms River Regional could cut 60 teaching positions as state aid drops
TOMS RIVER Sixty teaching positions, two administrator jobs and eight support staff posts could be cut as Toms River Regional schools deal with another $8 million cut in state education aid.
The spending plan, which includes no cuts to sports or extra-curricular activities, contains slight tax increases for Toms River, Pine Beach, Beachwood and South Toms River, the four towns that make up the regional district.
The school tax rate in Toms River would rise less than 1 cent per $100 of assessed property value a 0.75-cent increase under the budget.
