RSU 21 candidates talk priorities in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel

KENNEBUNK, Maine – Recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, improving communication, and increasing the district’s focus on children and curriculum were recurring themes when the six candidates for RSU 21 School Board were recently interviewed about their campaigns. Another theme that often popped up: all candidates are newcomers looking to step off the sidelines and onto the field to oversee the district during a challenging time in education. A change in the board s makeup is inevitable, as none of the four incumbents Michael Mosher and Gayle Asmussen Spofford of Kennebunk, Sarah Dore of Kennebunkport, and Devon Havey of Arundel  decided to seek reelection this time around.

Marquis succeeded Bruce Rudolph as the district’s business administrator in 2018. In this role, he has overseen the business office and transportation, facilities and maintenance departments within the district. Previously, Marquis had served as the principal of Sea Road School for eight years.

RSU 21 rethinks hybrid learning, considers 7 options

KENNEBUNK, Maine – Stay with the hybrid model of student instruction, or choose a new direction? In the coming weeks, RSU 21 Superintendent Terri Cooper and her staff will be weighing options to decide how students will be receiving their instruction moving forward, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Cooper said she and her team of administrators decided to explore the issue after receiving interest from the community in having students spend more time at their schools than they currently do with the hybrid model. Cooper and several administrators on Monday presented the RSU 21 School Board and the public with seven possible approaches they will be exploring.

RSU 21 hires communications consultant with COVID relief funds

KENNEBUNK, Maine – From now until June, Regional School Unit 21 will have a communications consultant whose focus will be delivering the latest developments in the district related to COVID-19, connecting schools and the community, and showcasing positive moments among students, faculty and staff. Jennifer Hass started her part-time, six-month position on Dec. 14. Since then, according to Superintendent Terri Cooper, she has issued press releases, visited schools, taken photos and worked on the district’s new website, which is expected to be ready in about six months. “We’re just excited about the enthusiasm she is bringing to the role and the enthusiasm she’s generating in the community by getting out those great, feel-good stories that were always happening but were going unnoticed,” Cooper told the RSU 21 School Board at its meeting on Monday, Jan. 4.
