Last March, Boulder Oaks Elementary School teacher Nikki Woodward hugged her third-graders good-bye for the last time as schools nationwide shut down and the pandemic took over life in America.
On Wednesday afternoon, 313 days after the pandemic began, Woodward received her first COVID-19 vaccine, becoming one of the first teachers in San Diego County to get a vaccine.
Her school district, the small, rural Alpine Union in East County, is able to get teachers and all school staff vaccinated through its partnership with local tribes located in Alpine who opened vaccinations to school staff before the rest of San Diego County.
