On the first day of the weeklong lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19, no people were seen on the streets and the busiest areas of the town were almost deserted.
Very few rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were spotted in Old Market area, Boro Indira intersection, VC Market area, New Market area, and Bishwa road. Not many people were seen in the kitchen market area either, said our correspondent.
Deputy Commissioner Manjurul Hafeez announced a seven-day lockdown yesterday due to the recent surge in Covid-19 infections in the district.
Bus movement in Rajshahi suspended after BNP rally announced

Road communication from different districts to Rajshahi has been suspended after BNP announced their divisional rally in the district tomorrow.
Rajshahi District Bus Owners Joint Secretary Shafkat Manjur told The Daily Star today, The transport workers have been feeling insecure due to the political programme. That s why they stopped bus communication. Bus movement was normal in the morning today. But later the number of buses has reduced slowly. So, we have stopped the movement of buses, he said.
When asked about the rally, BNP s District Publicity Secretary Nazmul Islam told The Daily Star, We have sought permission to hold the divisional rally at Shaheb Bazar, Gonokpara and Sonadighi intersections in Rajshahi city around 3:00pm tomorrow. But we are yet to get permission.
