Detroit Lakes School Board member Kylie Johnson tendered her resignation from the board at its Monday night meeting to accept a position as the district's new human resources director. "I can't think of a happier reason to be walking away," Johnson said. Former board member Dr. Tom Seaworth was appointed to fill Johnson's seat for the remainder of her term, which ends Dec. 31.
After three years of chairing the Detroit Lakes School Board, Amy Erickson will switch places with John Steffl in 2022. Steffl was unanimously elected chairman at a Monday night organizational meeting, while Erickson was elected to serve in Steffl's former post of vice chairman.
Two juveniles under the age of 16 have been charged in Becker County Juvenile Court in connection with threats against at least one Detroit Lakes school on Nov. 2, according to the Becker County Attorney. The threats caused a lockdown at Detroit Lakes High School that day.
