Fairfield City Council The Fairfield City Council will meet in regular session tonight at 6:00 pm in City Hall. Items in routine business will include approval to purchase absorption chamber screens for the filter plant, portable cargo container discussion, TIF Surplus, and the December 27th Council Meeting. ### FCHS School Board The Fairfield Community High School Board met in regular session last night. The current weighted grading system discussion was addressed, with FCHS staff members Lori Robson and Tammy Austin reviewing the current weighted grading system and presenting a proposal for a new system, which should be less confusing for college and scholarship applications. These changes would only effect those taking Honors Classes. All agreed that the current system needs changed and the new proposal should be studied further and addressed at a future board meeting. Volunteers for a Progressive Fairfield awarded Smile awards to Reta Mathews and Carol Nale Vaughan. The award was started by the late Mayor Mike Dreith. The group plans to award it annually. "SMILE" stands for SHINE,MOTIVATE,INSPIRE, LEADS, EXCEL. Reta Mathews and Carol Vaughan had been chosen as recipients by Mike before his death. Reta and her late husband Preston could be seen working daily during summer months keeping the landscape at Freedom Park attractive to visitors of the downtown area. Reta has turned over her park duties to Carol, whose commitment to Wasson Park has been ongoing for at least 17 years. Carol notes the Tennant Landscaping donations of plants at both parks and Elaine Gardner, Chuck Reynolds and Angela Vaughan help watering the parks. The FCHS Board met last night in special session. The board passed the updated Return to School Plan with one no vote from board member Matt Rush. Superintendent Jill Fulkerson stated that the plan was pretty generic and contained numerous suggestions for a safe return to school. She further stated that the plan is mandatory in order to receive some funding. After an Executive Session, the board employed Linda Johnston and DJ Vaughan as Individual Aides; Mark Wells as a part-time bus driver, to become full time in December; and Nate Neal as a Special Education Teacher. The board also raised the minimum aide pay to $15.00 per hour and $22.50 per hour for bus drivers. Driving for extra curricular trips was also raised to $22.50 per hour.
