LAFAYETTE Lafayette Township School families and staff are unhappy with the demotion of the school s only psychologist to part-time status, saying the move comes at a time when mental health resources are needed more than ever.
The Lafayette Board of Education voted 5-3 last week to reduce Barbara McIntyre s position from full-time to part-time effective July 1 to cut costs. Those in favor of the measure were President Josh Aikens, Vice President Lisa Carlson, and members Karen Mitchell, John Kanson and Frederick Greaver. The three who voted against the reduction were Melissa Geaney, Erin Vogler and Rebecca Brown.
By juggling his duties for the roundtable and Fredon, Beck said the experience helped him as he got a clearer sense of how other districts were dealing with the unique school year. Superintendents shared ideas with one another during the regular meetings, and they tried to implement similar guidelines so everyone was mainly on the same page. Really it s just been a huge team effort here in the county, Beck said. Collaboration and teamwork has really been the theme for the past year. The county is really lucky to have leaders of his caliber, Cenatiempo added, and it made a difference this year.
Sussex County schools thrill students with traditional snow day off
New Jersey Herald
As the temperature began to fall in recent weeks, students dreamed of snow days and parents wondered if they were a thing of the past due to COVID-19 and remote learning.
All Sussex County schools have taken part in some form of remote learning during the 2020-21 school year, which naturally begs the question: would the traditional day off become obsolete?
No, said John Fritzky, superintendent of the Byram Township School District.
In an announcement on Facebook Wednesday afternoon, Fritzky delighted many in the school community. We all know this year has been difficult, and this upcoming snowstorm may be a gift for all of our students to step away from their computers and go outside and play in the snow, Fritzky posted. The only thing we are asking you to do is go outside and enjoy the snow. Make snow angels, snow forts, and sledding trails. Take pictures and share them to remind us
Don’t expect a snow day, N.J. superintendent tells kids. Remote learning marches on.

Not exactly.
While some superintendents say kids deserve a day off of school, remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic has now given school districts the option of barreling through their work and avoid tacking days onto the end of the year.
In Cherry Hill, where about 4- to 6 inches of snow is expected starting Wednesday afternoon, Superintendent Joseph Meloche on Monday dashed hopes of an early winter break.
“We are expecting our first major snowfall in nearly two years, but because we’re all on remote instruction, do not expect a phone call from Mrs. Wilson, because we will not be having a snow day,” Meloche, who was referring to the district’s public information officer, said in a video posted to Twitter.
