Morton District 709 COVID-19 update: cases and quarantines down as second semester set to begin MORTON, Ill. 14 students within Morton School District 709 were diagnosed with COVID-19, and 26 were in quarantine, as of Jan. 1. One staff member had coronavirus and four were in isolation, as of the same date. 19 students were out with coronavirus, and 243 were in quarantine during the start of holiday break on Dec. 19. During the same time period, three staff members had COVID-19, and 10 were in isolation. Many students who elected to attend school remotely during the first semester have elected to return to in-person learning for the second semester, according to Superintendent Jeffrey W. Hill.
