Iowa schools could offer beginning teachers a salary increase of up to $16,500 under a bill proposed by Gov. Kim Reynolds. While educators are enthusiastic about increasing teacher pay, many worry about controversial proposed changes to Iowa’s area education agencies under the same bill.
The law, which was signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds last month, bars books that depict or describe sexual acts. Schools are also required to have a policy that allows someone to request removal of any classroom materials, and they must put their library catalog online and allow parents to review certain instructional materials.
