CLEVELAND, Ohio In a school year filled with uncertainty, thanks to the coronavirus, Mentor Superintendent William Porter noticed something that stuck with him: a higher level of appreciation between students and teachers. Porter, who has been superintendent for four years, said students and teachers “were overjoyed to see each other” after doing fully remote learning from mid-November to mid-January. “I saw how much our students need their teachers, and I saw how much our teachers need their students,” Porter said. “Both of those at kind of a profound level for me.”

Avon Lake, Clearview, North Ridgeville and Wellington schools to get funding for prevention programming

The funding will support the social and emotional needs of students, teachers and families, according to a news release. Multiple school districts are working with MHARS Board staff to assess their needs and resources, and develop creative plans for wellness. The first cohort of districts to finish their plans and receive funding approval are Avon Lake Schools, Clearview Schools, North Ridgeville Schools and Wellington Schools. - Advertisement - “The funds will be utilized in a variety of ways across the district,” North Ridgeville City Schools Social Worker Chelsea Freeman said in the release. “We are very lucky to be awarded such a grant in the middle of a pandemic.”
