Tokio – El nadador britÃ¡nico Tom Dean se proclamÃ³ nuevo campeÃ³n olÃmpico de los 200 libre, tras imponerse este martes con un tiempo de 1:44.22 en la final de los Juegos OlÃmpicos de RÃo por delante de su compatriota Scott Duncan, plata, y del brasileÃ±o Fernando Scheffer, que se colgÃ³ el bronce. Dean, que contaba hasta ahora como mejor resultado en una prueba individual la medalla de bronce que conquistÃ³ en los pasados Europeos de Budapest, no desaprovechÃ³ el hundimiento del surcoreano Sunwoo Hwang, que se desfondÃ³ por completÃ³ en el Ãºltimo largo, tras superar el ecuador de la prueba a ritmo de nuevo rÃ©cord del mundo.

Dean and Scott are sharing an apartment in the athletes village. âWe get on really well, whether weâre playing cards, watching films together, or whatever,â said Scott. âWeâre mates outside of the pool first, and then weâre competitors as well.â Hard as Scott tried, he could not quite hide his disappointment at finishing second. He was the fastest man in the world this year coming into the race but left himself just too much to do in the final few metres. It helped Dean that he was in the lane inside South Koreaâs Hwang Sun-woo, who covered the first 100m or so in world-record pace before he faded in the final 50m.
