Exporters, traders attribute current fall in prices to international market trend, withdrawal of export incentives; falling rupee only positive
The reversal in coffee price trend has left growers worried in key producing states such as Karnataka and Kerala as they complete the harvest and gear up to start operations such as pruning and manuring for the next season.
Farm gate coffee prices in Karnataka have dropped by 6-7 per cent over the past four months, even as global prices have turned volatile during this period. Arabica May 21 futures on ICE have risen to 132 cents per pound last week, from about 128 cents in early April. Similarly, Robusta May 21 futures on LIFFE are hovering around $1,365 a tonne, up from $1,350 in early April.

“She is perfectly hale and healthy with no side-effects,” Dr. Xavier A. D’Souza, Medical Superintendent and Urologist, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mysuru, told SOM, about his mother-in-law.

MADIKARI: The silent world opened up with sounds to the six-year-old Dhruva, who heard for the first time on the World Hearing Day on Wednesday.
The young boy, who has been diagnosed with profound hearing loss since birth, was gifted with hearing aids with the efforts from Swastha Centre for Special Education and Rehabilitation, Suntikoppa. The hearing aids were handed over to Dhruva by Kodagu DC Charulata Somal.

Arabica parchment coffee rules at 6-year high; prices scale ₹10,500 per bag

Price of Arabica coffees, mainly the premium parchment variety, have exceeded ₹10,500 per 50-kg bag, after almost six years providing relief to some extent to the growers, who are in the midst of harvesting the 2020-21 crop.
However, growers continue to face challenges such as bad weather and labour shortage impeding harvest in the key producing areas of Karnataka, which accounts for over two-thirds of the coffee produced in the country.
“Arabica prices are ruling around ₹10,500 per bag, but the big challenge is the shortage of labour that is delaying the pickings,” said S Appadurai, Chairman, Karnataka Planters’ Association.
