A phone call from his sister got Daniel Vaccaro on a plane from San Diego to New York to see his ailing father in the hospital. Those final few nights together, talking about life, would lead Vaccaro to memorialize that time together in a father-and-son memoir, “The Last Few Innings with My Dad,” published by Dorrance Publishing Co. in February.
“It’s about those precious, final conversations between a son and dad. … I wasn’t expecting him to pass, but I knew this could be the last time I might see him,” he says. “I got to spend three nights with him in the hospital, talking about life, family, and watching his beloved New York Yankees on TV. At the time, I did not know how precious this time would be.”
