The first hull of Sunreef Yachts’ 23.87-metre catamaran yacht Sunreef 80 Eco is currently in build and is set to launch this summer. The luxury catamaran uses wind, solar energy, and hydro-generation as its energy sources.
Photo: Sunreef YachtsThe unique technology on board the Sunreef Eco 80 has been designed and produced in-house by Sunreef Yachts. The “solar skin system” on board captures solar energy by using what her builders describe as the “world’s lightest solar cells”, which are integrated into the hull sides, superstructure, bimini and carbon mast. Solar energy is captured by the yacht’s more than 150 square-metre photovoltaic system, which is used to power her twin 180kW electric engines. The vessel also recovers energy from her propeller rotation via a hydro-generation system, which can generate more than 15 kWh while sailing above 7 knots.
