Mumbai s first drive-in vaccination centre started at BMC’s Kohinoor parking lot in Dadar with hundreds of people queuing up to get elderly and immobile persons vaccinated.
BMC said 417 persons were vaccinated in 227 cars till Tuesday evening. While the wait for many was for over an hour, people said it was not a hassle as beneficiaries had to wait in the vehicle itself. People have to pay parking charges of Rs60/hour even though the vaccine is free.
Dadar’s Dr Sunil Rajadhyaksha took his 90-year-old mother Sudha for her second dose. He said they entered the facility at 11.45am and got vaccinated by 1.30pm. “There were 20 cars ahead but it was a spacious and well-ventilated centre. My mother got her first jab at another centre, but the walk from the car to centre was too much in summer,” he said.
