Ikpeazu dispels defection rumours

The organisation, he said, must continue to have credible leadership for it to enjoy the support of well meaning sons and daughters of Igboland. Ikpeazu stated this on Wednesday at the Governor’s Lodge in Aba while receiving in audience a delegation of eminent Igbo sons, who came to present to him Prof. George Obiozor as the candidate for the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The governor described Obiozor as an intellectual of global repute, stating that at this stage of the development of Ndigbo in Nigeria, it will be difficult to find a better candidate for the position than the eminent professor.

Ikpeazu signs N131 9bn appropriation bill into law

Punch Newspapers Sections Sunday Nwakanma, Umuahia Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has signed the 2021 Appropriation Bill into law at the Aba Government lodge. The Bill which was passed by the Abia State House of Assembly earlier today was presented to the Governor by the Clerk of the House, Sir John Pedro Irokansi, in his Aba Lodge where he endorsed the N131,852,752,000.00 Budget made up of N69bn for capital expenditure and N62.8bn for recurrent expenditure. Ikpeazu had on December 7, 2020, presented the budget christened Budget of Local Contents and Sustainable Development to the state House of Assembly. The budget, which is 21.12 per cent higher than last year’s appropriation, Ikpeazu explained, was inspired by the quest to reinvent the Abia spirit of industry and ingenuity and stimulate industrialisation through the establishment of Cottage Industries in the 17 council areas of the state.

Those leaving PDP are blacklegs, says Orji

Punch Newspapers Sections Sunday Nwakanma, Umuahia The Senator representing Abia Central in the National Assembly, Theodore Orji, has described those who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in his senatorial zone as blacklegs, adding that they should prepare to live with the consequences of their actions. He said this while speaking to party supporters after inspecting his constituency projects at Ukome Ibeku, Okwuta Ibeku and Ohokobe Afara Ibeku, all in Umuahia North and Umuariaga in the Ikwuano Local Government Areas on Monday. Orji spoke in a veiled reference to the decision of a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwuano/Umuahia, Sam Onuigbo, who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress last week.

APC protests as PDP, LP win Abia LG seats

Punch Newspapers Sections Sunday Nwakanma,  Umuahia The Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, has rejected the outcome of the December 18 local government elections in the state. The party rejected the declaration of candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party winners of the election. Speaking to reporters at the state APC Secretariat, in Umuahia, on Sunday, the Caretaker Committee chairman, Donatus Nwankpa, said, “The ABSIEC not only displayed incompetence, they also exhibited lack of preparedness. “In most places, in most cases, there were no voting materials, no result sheets, the manpower and the capacity to even conduct the election because there were no preparations to conduct election into the 292 ABSIEC wards and the 17 LGAs which manifested itself yesterday” he said.
