BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was sworn in as the chief minister of Assam, visited the Kamakhya temple before he took oath, in Guwahati on Monday.
NEW DELHI: Finally, the BJP on Sunday zeroed in on the name of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the successor to Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief minister of Assam. However, it took a complete one week for the BJP top brass to clinch the vexed issue after the results of the state assembly election were declared on May 2.
Though the violence in West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) swept the elections also took the BJP leadership time, Assam did present before it an entangled problem. No wonder, the BJP went against the established tradition of declaring the incumbent chief minister as the face of the assembly election.
