BHUBANESWAR: Twenty-one more Covid patients, the highest-ever in a day in the state, succumbed to the infection on Saturday taking the overall toll to 2,161.
The state recorded 11,807 more cases, of which Cuttack’s share was 1,052 infections. With this, the state’s overall positivity rate since the outbreak of the pandemic, has crossed five per cent.
Cuttack, which has been witnessing a spurt in cases like its neighbour Khurda, has so far reported 150 deaths with two more patients dying of Covid on Saturday. It had 7,186 active cases as on Saturday, which is 3,000 less than its neighbour Bhubaneswar. In the first wave, Cuttack’s highest single-day spike had almost touched 600 (595).

BHUBANESWAR: The five districts of Khurda, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Bargarh and Cuttack account for half of the state’s Covid caseload as daily infections inched towards the 5000 mark. On Wednesday, the state registered 4,851 fresh positive cases with Khurda district reporting the highest 703 infections.
Besides western districts, coastal and southern districts of Puri (223), Ganjam (151) and Keonjhar (166) have reported cases in triple digits. Other districts, which have reported significant number of cases include Jharsuguda (290), Angul (111), Balangir (227), Nabarangpur (194) and Sambalpur (171).
Khurda (5,021) has left behind Sundargarh (4,894) in terms of cumulative active cases in the past two days. Eleven districts have active cases in four digits taking the states total active cases to 30,927.

BHUBANESWAR: For the first time this year, Covid new infections crossed 2000 mark in the state with 2267 fresh cases in 24 hours. While Sundargarh district took the top spot again with 458 cases, Khurda’s single day spike is 348 cases, up from 201 a day earlier.
On Wednesday three Covid patients succumbed to the infection taking the total deaths to 1933. A least six districts have reported cases in triple digits while active cases have gone past 11,000 (11634) cases with 610 new recoveries.
Sundargarh’s active cases (2305) are highest among 30 districts. Sundargarh’s Lephripara, Tangarpali, Subdega, Bargaon, Rajgangpur, Bisra, Lahunipada blocks continue to report more than 100 Covid positive cases each daily. Nuapada’s Sinapali block continues to remain vulnerable.
