Wildfire near Sun Peaks, Whitecroft now pegged at 466 hectares

As of Monday, 33 firefighters, including one structure protection specialist, two helicopters and seven pieces of heavy equipment are being used to fight the fire. Three members of the Sun Peaks Fire Department are also assisting, according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWFS). The fire is burning in difficult and steep terrain, with unstable slopes and rockslides posing risk to the safety of its crews. Inoperable areas are being monitored and helicopters are being utilized to bucket water into hot spots in the problematic areas, According to the BCWFS, crews are working with the structure protection specialist to protect properties from the interface fire and heavy equipment is being used along the McClure Forest Service Road, north of the blaze, to establish control lines.

Sun Peaks now on evacuation alert due to Embleton Mountain wildfire

The evacuation alert applies to all properties within the boundaries of the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.  The municipality said residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation order, but added that residents may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.  If an evacuation was ordered, residents are to take Sun Peaks Road to Heffley Louis Creek Road to Kamloops. Evacuation alerts issued due to fire near Whitecroft

  A fire west of the community of Whitecroft, near Sun Peaks, is getting larger as of Saturday (July 10), with 132 properties on evacuation alert. According to the BC Wildfire Service , the Kirton wildfire, located about 2.5 kilometres west of Cahilty Creek, west of Whitecroft, is estimated at 15 hectares in size as of 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and and is classified as out of control. There has been no word yet on cause of the fire. Smoke from the blaze can be seen from Sun Peaks and parts of Kamloops. While crews work on the blaze, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for a number of properties:
