Alleged Bosnian war criminal arrested in Swampscott - Itemlive

Swampscott resident Kemal Mrndzic, 50, of Swampscott was arrested and charged with making fraudulent claims of persecution to become a United States refugee and, later, a United States citizen Wednesday morning.Mrndzic allegedly served as a guard supervisor at a notorious prison camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the sectarian war in the 1990s.Prosecutors allege that in his refugee application and interview, Mrndzic falsely claimed he fled his home after he was captured, interrogated and abused by Serb forces, and could not return home for fear of future persecution. He was admitted to the U.S. as a refugee in 1999, and ultimately became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2009.

As part of its mission to give back to the community it serves, Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to a local veterans’ organization.
