About 1,500 children ages 5 to 11 in Summit County have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and health officials expect that another 1,500 kids in that age range will get the inoculation. But some parents are planning to wait until school is out for Christmas break to sign their kids up for their first shot, a strategy that Health Director Phil Bondurant does not recommend.
“Thank you to the medical professionals, organizers and volunteers. I can only imagine the amount of coordination it took to deliver the vaccine in this way. After 18 long months of anticipation, my family is safer because of you,” writes Kathy Parker.
Our view: Our county has been one of the most vaccinated in the state since early on. Inoculating children in the 5-11 age group will bring us one step closer to moving past the pandemic.
