Business owners, elected officials, town staff and other stakeholders meet Wednesday, July 21, for a breakout discussion during the Summit County Housing Action Initiative at the Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center in Breckenridge. The event was focused on identifying actionable steps for how various groups could work together to help mitigate the affordable housing shortage.
Coffee cups were filled, name tags were pinned and the room at Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center was buzzing with chatter from leaders across Summit County on Wednesday morning. This week, Keystone Policy Center coordinated a half-day housing summit, gathering over 90 nonprofit leaders, business owners, elected officials and town staff to brainstorm and collaborate about potential strategies that could be used to mitigate the county’s workforce housing shortage.
At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, Summit County is hosting a virtual town hall about wildfire planning, preparation and mitigation efforts.
The following officials will host the event: Summit County Commissioners Elisabeth Lawrence and Tamara Pogue, Summit Fire & EMS Chief Travis Davis, U.S. Forest Service Dillon District Manager Adam Bianchi, Summit County Emergency Management Director Brian Bovaird and Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District Chief Jim Keating.

Summit County’s housing problem isn’t new, but if you’ve been one of the many residents trying to find a place to live in the past year, it’s been no easy task.
County officials gathered Thursday, April 29, to listen to a housing needs presentation by the Summit Combined Housing Authority. Consulting firm Economic & Planning Systems presented their findings after conducting a housing study from March 2019 to March 2020. After a yearlong delay due to COVID-19, Economic & Planning Systems representatives David Schwartz and Rachel Shindman showcased the data, which highlighted the region’s current housing needs.
