My name is Mojo Rose, and I am an elementary school teacher who draws comics about what life is like in the classroom. Lately, I’ve been drawing comics about what it’s like OUT of the classroom (thanks, Covid…).
When the pandemic first hit the United States and they closed down schools, they said we only needed to hunker down and quarantine for 2 weeks. I thought I was a realist and didn’t really believe them. A month of school closures sounded more likely. 11 months later, and it turned out I was actually an optimist.
As we approach the one year mark of the pandemic and online learning, I wanted to share these comics about what teaching during Covid-19 is really like. From the magic of the “mute all” button to the horrors of brown sink water, take a look at life in a school from the people who are trying their best to run the show as normally as they can (or at least not add more trauma to the children).

they can stay after school. but practically speaking, how can this be addressed? i mean, in this country, when you hear that woman s story, there are very few jobs that start at 9:30 in the morning after the school day starts and an end at 3 p.m. and have the summers off and four weeks vacation that happen during the year. what can really change practically speaking? because parents need to go back to work, want to go back to work. well there is a bill that s been introduced in a bipartisan way that would at least deal with what i think of as the three legged scho eged stool of care. it would help pay but also improve quality and increase the stability of child care. there s such a high turnover in child care. we did one study once where we went back a few years later when they had tried to make an improvement. only 2% of teachers in that program were still there. because they couldn t afford to stay there. so you can t just tell people pay for child care. you have to improve the qua
but the thing she describes is just to be clear like doesn t happen in the way that she says. it s not some undercover video of them doing this ghastly thing. it s like me like i saw, you know, i saw carly fiorina punch an old lady in the face and 24 million people say carly punched aly i did in the face. not really. it s an imperial question. they re going back and forth. produce it. it s not there. right. produce it it s not there. you had something else to do about fiorina. the secretary and ceo thing. i went secretary to ceo. and it s all over her résume i think she owned secretary to ceo dot com. it s fraudulent. her father was the dean of duke law school. he s nixon s deputy attorney general. she works as a secretary from summers off from stanford and joins at&t after business school on a management tract.
