Sarasota rapper Shug Stacks charged in drive-by shootings

SARASOTA Sarasota rapper Jaymes Smith has been charged with attempted murder after he was connected to an Aug. 14 shooting on North Washington Boulevard, according to police. Smith, 29, also known as Sarasota rapper Shugg Stacks, has been in custody since Aug. 28 following a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill related to a different shooting that occurred on Aug. 9. He is being held on bonds totaling $350,000 in both cases. A commuter heard the shooting at 2:13 p.m. in the 3000 block of North Washington Boulevard, located about a half-mile south of Myrtle Street. According to an arrest report, the driver of a Buick Encore SUV cut off the witness and caused her to slam on the brakes. She told police the Buick appeared to be chasing a black Infiniti sedan.
