Uutiskesän pommeihin lukeutui perussuomalaisten puheenjohtajan Jussi Halla-ahon jokseenkin yllättävä ilmoitus jättää paikkansa puolueen johdossa jo elokuun puoluekokouksessa. Kesän 2017 hallituskriisin synnyttänyt nousu silloisen hallituspuolueen johtoon katkeaa siis jo ennen vuoden 2023 eduskuntavaaleja, joita moni oli jo ennättänyt pitää laitaoikeistopuolueen sadonkorjuupäivänä. Heti kuntavaalien jälkeen julki kerrottu ratkaisu aloitti seuraajapelin, joka saattaa entisestään syventää nykyisten pääoppositiopuolueiden lähentymistä
