The fight for gender justice ought to be intersectional and globally co-ordinated

The fight for gender justice ought to be intersectional and globally co-ordinated By Sumeya Gasa on 28 April 2021 Some of humanity’s most devastating injustices have been overcome by movements that have a strong, unifying voice. From South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle, to the civil rights movement in the US, people all over the world have continually fought for justice at multiple levels of society.  Although women and gender nonconforming people have contributed significantly to the gains of the racial liberation movements, their plight remains largely underappreciated. But, if we have learned  anything from ongoing struggles for racial justice such as the #BlackLivesMatter movement, perhaps the movement for gender justice needs to be both co-ordinated at a global level and across intersectional contexts.

The after-effects of being wrongfully arrested

Share This: Wits Justice Project senior multimedia journalist Sumeya Gasa explains the work they do and callers share their experience. Wits Justice Project investigates miscarriages of justice and raises awareness of issues within the criminal justice system. The project also looks to help those wrongfully arrested and incarcerated. Clement Manyathela speaks to Wits Justice Project senior multimedia journalist Sumeya Gasa about their work. Most South Africans are too poor to afford real justice. You find that most people rely on legal aid but they are extremely under-resourced and overworked and that compromises the quality of legal services citizens can expect.
