While neither team was able to cut down the nets, Eastsideâs boys and girls basketball teams matched some history this season.
For just the second time in school history, both the Blazer boys and Blazer girls reached sectional championship games.
In February, the girls lost to Bluffton 38-31, and the boys lost to Churubusco Saturday 49-41.
The only other time this happened was the 1976-1977 season. The Eastside boys lost to DeKalb in the championship game, but the girls won the first of three straight sectional crowns, defeating Angola 41-38.
The girls have played for sectional championships on eight occasions, capturing titles in the 1977, 1978, 1979 and 2016 seasons. Of their four losses, two were by seven points or less.
BUTLER â Seniors Jaiden Baker, Sullivan Kessler and Allyson King combined for 27 points to lead Eastside to a 52-25 win over Westview Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Kessler had 15 points, King had 10 and Baker had two. Kessler picked up eight assists and six steals. King had eight rebounds. Baker had a rebound, two assists and a steal.
The Blazers improved to 11-10 in all games and finished Northeast Corner Conference play at 4-6. Westview finished regular-season play at 3-19 and 1-10 in the NECC.
âWe love our seniors. Theyâve worked very, very hard the last two years, and I want to thank them for their dedication, the work theyâve put in the last two years of this program,â Eastside coach Mike Lortie said.
